Former President Donald Trump edged out Vice President Kamala Harris as the expected winner in the 2024 presidential election in Emerson College Polling's final poll released on Sunday (November 3), two days before Election Day.
Fifty percent of voters expect Trump to win the election while 49% expect Harris to be elected. The two candidates are, however, tied at 49% in support among U.S. voters, with 1% supporting a third-party candidate and another 1% claiming to be undecided.
“The final Emerson College poll of the national popular vote, which doesn’t account for the Electoral College, points to an incredibly close race,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling. “The gender divide is stark, with women favoring Harris by 12 points and men supporting Trump by the same margin.”
Poll respondents also chose the economy as the top issue in the 2024 election cycle at 40%, followed by immigration (17%), threats to democracy (16%), abortion access (7%) and healthcare (5%), crime (4%), housing affordability (3%) and education (3%). Immigration increased by 3% from the previous week's poll, while threats to democracy rose by 2%.
The final Emerson College Polling national survey was conducted between October 30 and November 2 and has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points. The 2024 presidential election will be held on November 5.
